Located high above Guadiaro, the Spanish town known for its “golf fever”, local folks demanded and got the first public golf course on the Costa del Sol.
La Cañada is easily accessed from Marbella and Algeciras via the N.340 motorway.
This course, which boasts impressive views of the sea, the mountains and the Guadiaro river, has 18 holes (par 71). Internationally-known golfer Robert Trent designed what were originally the first nine holes, and are now the second nine thanks to the addition of nine more holes (now the first) designed by the well-known architecht Dave Thomas.
With its lovingly-maintained greens, perfect fairways and plant life native to the region, it’s not at all flat, though the gently rolling slopes and breathtaking natural surroundings assure the game is enjoyable while at the same time varied.
The course houses an excellent municipal golf school, which is an added value to an already unique and special course that is a solid favourite amongst both locals and guests.
